On November 2-3, the Northern Rio Grande Heritage Area organized a Sky Fiesta at Los Luceros Historical site for its launching pad. Saturday morning a dozen balloons were inflated and launched from the area near the Capilla, and the same area was used for a “glow” on Saturday night. The weather cooperated, with very little wind and a cloudless sky in the morning.
Notably, the balloonists were able to launch Zozobra, a giant balloon from Santa Fe, and this lighter-than-air version of “Old Man Gloom” flew south with many more traditionally constructed balloons and, unlike his paper relatives, survived for another day. On Sunday morning, balloons were inflated at the site but not launched.
