The 148-acre Los Luceros Ranch is located north of Alcalde on the east side of the Rio Grande, downstream of the start of a major acequia. The centerpiece of Los Luceros Historic Site is a magnificent Territorial style Hacienda that houses centuries of history within its walls. The property also includes an 18th century Capilla (chapel), a Victorian style adobe cottage, a carriage house, a guesthouse, a farmyard, orchards and fields.

For thousands of years people have touched this land, each adding to its story. Rancho Los Luceros is a place where these memories have been preserved on the landscape and, while its story is unique, it is also representative of development in New Mexico history.  The most recent phase of the development of Los Luceros was its establishment as a New Mexico Historic Site in 2018. Together with the state, The Amigos invite you to explore the deep and complex histories of this beautiful property.

Amigos del Rancho Los Luceros, Inc.

The Amigos del Rancho Los Luceros, Inc. (The Amigos) was established in 2012 by a group of volunteers interested in preserving the history of the historic Los Luceros Ranch located on 148-acres bordering the Rio Grande north of Espanola in Rio Arriba County.

The mission of The Amigos is to bring together historic preservation, education training, agricultural and environmental interests in support of site operations and public understanding of this unique resource. Our commitment is to ensure that this historical site continues to be a cherished landmark for future generations.

The Amigos work with the New Mexico State Department of Cultural Affairs to ensure the preservation and integrity of the Los Luceros New Mexico State Historical Site, which offers public access and interpretive exhibits that showcase many aspects of the development of Northern New Mexico. The Site’s is a window into to more than 300 years of history— its location and history reflect patterns of post-colonial development in Northern New Mexico.

As we pursue our goal of preserving and sharing this beautiful and historical property in Northern New Mexico, we hope you will stop by to see for yourself what a gem it is.
